What are the main Deductible retirement plans?
There are two main categories of plans that can be qualified as Deductible retirement: defined benefit plans and defined contribution plans. Defined benefit plans predict what an employee will receive in benefits upon retirement, based on the employee's compensation, age and anticipated age of retirement. In a Defined contribution plan, the employer contributes to an account for each employee. Under the umbrella of Defined contribution, we find: profit-sharing and 401 (k) plans. The contribution is usually based on a percentage of the employee's compensation.

If a retirement plan conforms to specific requirements, then all contributions are deductible while earnings are not currently taxable. Qualified retirement plans are plans that provide retirement benefits and meet stringent requirements under federal law. Qualified Deductible retirement plans allow employees to defer reporting income from benefits until retirement while at the same time allowing employers to claim a current deduction for contributions to the plans. Income earned by the Deductible retirement plan is not currently taxed. Eventually it is taxed to employees when distributed to them as part of their benefits.
Certain Deductible retirement plans offer special tax incentives designated to encourage employers to help with employee retirement benefits.
